Product Care

All of our garments that are made with eVent® material have some basic instructions:

Machine wash warm with extra rinse, dry on warm heat.

Keeping your gear in top shape

The surface material has what is referred to as a Durable Water Repellency (DWR) coating. The coating is what causes the water to bead up and roll off the surface. When dirt, pollution from the air, water, or excess laundry detergent build up in the fabric, the beading effect is inhibited.

Protect the Durable Water Repellency (DWR)

The best way to protect the DWR is by washing with Tech-Wash® by Nikwax®. Follow the instructions on the bottle. It is designed for technical fabrics and removes most of the impurities in the fabric. This should be the first line of defense. When this becomes ineffective, follow the instructions for Restoring the DWR below.

Restore the DWR

Use Tech-Wash® to prepare the fabric. Follow up with treatment of TX-Direct® by Nikwax®. Follow the instructions on the bottle. This process helps to add back to the fabric the properties of water repellency that allow the eVent Fabric® to work at its most efficient level.

Other tips

  • Another method of restoring the DWR is to dry the fabric in the dryer. This "resets" the DWR within the fabric, bringing it to the surface and allowing it to its job more effectively.

  • If you don't use the Tech-Wash® product, then be sure not to overload the wash and use the second rinse feature (this is suggested even when using the Tech-Wash®). The detergent's job is to get into the fibers of the fabric and draw water in to help clean, so you need to be sure the detergent has been completely rinsed out. If the detergent isn't completely rinsed out, it will continue to draw water into the fabric, which is the opposite of what you want.

  • When storing your garments, keep them clean and dry. This will ensure no mildew will form and the garment is ready to go when you need it.
